Sometimes the Right Idea Shows Up Right on Time
1LnE didn’t start with a business plan or a brainstorming session.
It started with a conversation, a shared vision—and two cupcakes.
Michele Bilow and Eric Muller had been tossing around the idea of starting a business together for a while. Both brought complementary strengths, similar values, and a shared frustration with how businesses were forced to juggle disconnected systems, tools, and vendors just to function.
Then, one night, while out to dinner celebrating Eric’s birthday, something unexpected happened.
Toward the end of the meal, the waitress brought over cupcakes—leftovers from another party. She didn’t know it was Eric’s birthday. She didn’t know anything about the conversation we had been having. She simply placed them on the table.
Each of us grabbed one.
Michele looked down at her cupcake and noticed it was topped with the letter E.
She showed Eric.
Eric looked at his cupcake.
It had one L.
Michele—whose name is spelled with one L.
Eric—whose name starts with E.
1L + n + E.
1LnE.
In that moment, the name clicked. The timing clicked. The idea clicked.
What had been a “someday” conversation suddenly felt like a clear sign.
We stopped talking about if we would build something together—and started talking about how.
What 1LnE Stands For
The name may have come from a moment of coincidence, but what it represents is intentional.
1LnE was built on the belief that businesses don’t need more tools—they need better systems. They don’t need more noise—they need clarity. And they don’t need to be sold into one-size-fits-all solutions that don’t actually fit how they operate.
